ALOHA FRIDAY Geology photos!

The following photos were found under the "Ecuador Field work" fold at the lab. I was not here when they went so I am going to have to ask around for some IDing of the area...

Enjoy! I will add an update with where these were taken when I can track someone down!

Wednesday Geology Photos

Today I have some older lab field work photos for you! These photos are from Palau.
This is where Palau is.

The first few photos are of the islands, taken on the way back from a diving trip. The last few are some shots of the reef. Enjoy! Also there are a ton more on the facebook page.

Remember there are a ton more on the facebook page!

Gettin' the lab involved... Tuesday Geology Photos

One of my coworkers at the lab had some pretty sweet shots of erosion in the dry valleys of Antarctica on his computer from his thesis field work. They were too awesome to not share!

And this last one is a hanging valley in New Zealand!
Hope you enjoyed those photos! More tomorrow!

Pretty geology photos week!

I was reading Evelyn Mervine's blog on the AGU blogosphere this morning and she suggested posting a pretty geology picture every day this week because everyone loves pretty pictures!

I love this idea! I have been out of ideas of what to write about and have actually been going through years of photos from the lab. So I am going to take this opportunity to post a few!

Here is a photo from our Kauai field work. This is a side baby canyon in the making on the drive up Waimea Canyon.

Also here is my panorama of Waimea Canyon from that same drive. I think these were even taken on the same day....
We are going to be adding more photos to the facebook page and the google+ page this week so make sure to like and follow us!

Also we have just started a lab journal reading group and will start sharing some cool tidbits we glean from different papers. At least that is the plan.

AGU 2011 ePosters site

I love AGU. As a grad student I was only funded to go twice.
I went three times.
The last time was on my own dime, that is how much I love the AGU fall meeting in San Francisco. This year I graduated, got married, moved, started a new job, and it just wasn't in the cards for me. However, this ePoster thing is cool! I am going to be exploring the posters that are posted over next week.

There are already a bunch of seismology posters posted, and I hope that this is a new permanent feature! I am a collector of those mini-posters people print and would love to have these higher resolution copies! For example just browsing the seismology section (enter the section and hit search and look at all the cool results!) I found a poster on lithospheric structure below the Puna Plateau of the Central Andes! Click ePoster and there is the poster!

I am excited to see how many people use this new feature and hope it will become a mainstay of AGU. The poster sessions are my favorite and I love to just wander the poster hall and explore new fields I didn't even know existed. I will virtually be in San Fran this coming week, sitting at home with a beer exploring the posters!
